As many of you will know, I worked within the Retail Sector for over 23 years… day in, day out, talking to people.

I started at Tesco, Frozen Food… moved on to TV Rentals… then into Currys / Dixons. After 15 years with them, I got caught up in car world. It was that “boy” thing, drive lots of different cars, see the latest models, drive a nice new car every 3 – 4 months… fantastic.

Over the years I have spoken to 1000’s of people about potential purchases… from a packet of pea’s, circa £1, to top of the range Volvo’s, circa £70,000. In the retail world you meet the most amazing range of “people types”, from single parents, to millionaires.

So… where am I going with the title – “People Buy From People – Dont Judge A Book By It’s Cover”?

All the people that I have spoken to over the years, could quite easily have NOT purchased anything from me if I had been, negative, smarmy, cocky or rude. Obvious really.. but I can tell you now, over the years I have seen it all. The “one” who knows it all, the “one” who has been in this business since they were a boy, the new boy on the block – knows everything, not willing to learn, accept positive constructive advice.

I can also tell you, many “Sales” guys & girls LOST potential customers because they “Judged the Book By It’s Cover”. In my Volvo Cars Sales and Ford Commercial Sales days, I spoke to men in muddy boots, ripped t-shirts, scruffy hair and not to put to fine a point on it, smelly. Some 45 minutes later, I was talking to the same guy, but now he was the owner of a multi million pound company, with a net worth of over £1 miilion!!

I was asked many times by other “Sales” guys, how do you do it, how did you sell them something – they were a nightmare / looked like horrible customer’s to deal with.

The answer was always the same – “People Buy From People – Never Judge A Book By It’s Cover”

When you first interact with somone, on the phone or face to face, it takes approx 5 seconds to determine if you like this person… or perhaps more importantly, if they like YOU!.

They are looking or listening for a smile (yes you can tell if somone is smiling on the phone). A hand shake, “How are you”, “Nice to meet / speak to you today” all goes a long way towards building a rapoor with whom ever you are dealing with.

This rapoor that you are building also instals confidence, belief in the other person, they begin to trust you, your advice and your opinion. When you begin to build trust with someone, they become comfortable, begin to listen more, believe more… and this all goes a long way to improving your sales / conversion rate.

There is another saying, “Never Judge A Book By Its Cover” – and every successful Network Marketer, Leader or Business Builder will tell you how true this is.

So to summarise… if you are:

* Positive
* Motivated
* Polite
* Knowledgable
* Friendly
* Informed
* Never Judge The Book By It’s Cover

… People Will Buy From People – and that person will be YOU.

Google Adwords Campaigns

When creating a Google AdWords campaign, there are several elements which have a real influence on how effectively the campaign will work and a number which play a key role in this.

Some of the most important ones are:

establishing your target audience
correct keyword selection
good AdGroup creation
compelling Advert text
relevant landing page
There is also the requirement for all of these elements to work together and effectively create a funnel which will help to direct potential customers from when they type their search term into the Search Engine through to the call to action page on your website.

The three main stages along this path are:

Keyword Phrases:ensure that you are attracting the right group of Search Engine users by focused keyword phrase selection

Advert text: the advert should reinforce the keyword phrases you are targeting and, ideally, should contain those words as well.

Landing page: the landing page should be a specific one covering the same area as the initial keyword phrase – let them know they are in the right place

So, in a little more detail:

Keyword Phrases: first of all you need to ensure that you are attracting the right group of Search Engine users and this is achieved by selecting the right keyword phrases. You can choose as many relevant ones as you like but, because the adverts are linked to an AdGroup in Google AdWords, you will then need to divide them into AdGroups focused on keyword phrases that cover a similar area and that can be successfully represented by the same advert.

Advert text: this should reinforce the keyword phrases you are targeting and, ideally, should contain those words as well. This reassures the searcher that they are looking at an advert which will lead to exactly the information they are looking for. It can also filter out those who are not appropriate by focusing further on the products being offered. There is no point allowing someone to click through to your site looking for a solicitor in London when you are based in Birmingham – you pay for the click with little chance of winning any business from it. Judge your audience and adjust accordingly.

Landing page: at worst the advert should point at a specific page on your site which covers the same area as the initial keyword phrase and at best it would point to a special landing page you have created which is focused on the subject matter of the keywords you are targeting. Do not just send visitors through to the homepage – this is just like saying “ok you’re in the right place, now let’s see if you can find the information you’re after”, a bit like “hide and seek” if you like! Not the recipe for capturing that warm lead and showing them that you can answer their needs!

By linking these three elements you are creating both a funnel and a filter at the same time, and when done correctly will deliver only targeted visitors who are interested in what you offer through to your website. But you should not just have a single funnel – remember that each AdGroup is a separate funnel aimed at a different set of keyword phrases, so by putting them all together you get a whole series of individually targeted groups of customers arriving at your website.

First of all if your not in the top 10 search ranking in Google your missing out on a ton of free traffic. This is something every marketer needs to pay attention to. Now typically this takes the internet savvy business professional at least five business days to accomplish. But, I’ve discovered this is possible in 1 hour utilizing the right tools.

Having a top 10 search engine ranking results in more traffic, leads and sales with lower overall costs. The best way I have found to accomplish this is by producing videos and disseminating them across the web. To disseminate literally means to spread abroad as though sowing seed and to disperse throughout.

One tool I’ve found to be very effective in speeding up and simplifying this process is Traffic Geyser. Their main focus is driving qualified visitors to your targeted website or phone number. They accomplish this by rapidly distributing your promo messages to as many places as possible in order to generate links, back links and dominate keywords and key phrases as quickly as possible.

When it comes to ranking in Google you definitely want to keep online video at the fore front of your mind. Using online videos is an awesome way to engage your online audience. You have the advantage of communicating your message on multiple levels

• and visual text

It’s just a great way for anyone to reach a huge audience for a minimal investment. This is why the return on investment for online video marketing can be incredibly rewarding. But like any rewarding system online video marketing can be very time consuming. That is why I highly recommend utilizing the tools available. My favorite at this point for this particular skill is again Traffic Geyser. Leveraging off of Traffic Geyser is by far the most effective way to get a top 10 search engine ranking in Google results.

Online marketing is becoming more and more important and forms an important part of any marketing campaign. This is a big topic and it is impossible for me to cover everything here. I will use external links to point you to external resources if necessary.

For people with no or little marketing budget

1. Free online advertisement/directories

There are a lot of free advertisement websites on the internet. If you go to google and search for “free online advertisement”, you will find many of these sites. Some are better than others. Do not be too picky at this stage. Find as many online advertising sites as possible and post your advertisement there. Example of websites are www.hotfroguk.co.uk, http://business.uk.freeads.net/, http://www.ukclassifieds.co.uk, http://www.reed.co.uk, http://www.loot.com.

2. Forum advertising

Again, use google to search for “network marketing forum”, “mlm forum”, “business forum” etc. Register, create a profile and include your Gem Lifestyle website address in your profile. You can also include your website address in your signature which will appear at the bottom of you post. PLEASE DO NOT HARD SELL. Try to be helpful and answer other people’s questions. Build up a good reputation in the forums and people will automatically go to your profile to find out more about you. Example of forums are http://www.singingpig.co.uk, http://www.homeworking.com/, http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk just to name a few. There are lots out there.

3. Web 2.0 or Social Networking

If you are not using web 2.0 marketing, you are missing out on a lot of free traffic. Read this article to get some idea.

3a. Social Network

Have you heard Officebook and Myspace? These are online social networks where people can create a profile and interact with other people in the network. There most popular ones are Facebook, Myspace, Friendster, Linkedin and twitter. Once you have created free accounts on these websites, write a couple of paragraphs about yourself and your business and then include a link to your website. People love to view other people’s profiles and find out what they do. DO NOT hard sell.

Once setup, do a search on subjects like “Entrepreneurs” “Network Marketing” “Property Investors” etc. (I’m sure you will think of many) and start inviting people to be your friends and start connecting with people.

Some of these sites like Facebook let you create groups with specific interests and other people can join your group. This is also a great way to drive traffic.

3b. Blogs

If you do not know what a blog is, go to wikipedia site here. In short, it is a system where anyone can create their own online presence for free. Simply sign up for a free account and start posting! Popular blog hosts are Blogspot, and WordPress. One example of blogs is my Gem Opportunity Updates support Blog.

Blogs have the advantage of being very search engine friendly (means your blog can be found be google and yahoo easily) and bloggers like to look at other people’s blogs, hence creating free traffic.

3c. Other web 2.0 site.

There are other websites where you can network with other people and create your online presence. These are neither blogs nor social network site but have similar function and advantages. These include Squidoo and OneView.

4. Ezine Marketing

There are many Ezine websites where you can contribute and submit your articles. You should create articles which are of value to other readers and submit to these sites. You are usually allowed to put your website address at the bottom of the page. A popular Ezine is EzineArticles.com. You can find more similar one using Google.

5. Video Advertising.

Videos you put on Video Sharing Sites like YouTube are very search engine friendly and can attract a lot of viewers or visitors. You can put up any videos you like but make sure it is business related. You can then put your website address on the video screen (if you know how to do that) or in the video description. If you go to YouTube and search “gem lifestyle” or “network marketing”, you will know what I mean. Other video sites are Blip.tv, Dailymotion, Revver, Metacafe, Vimeo, NetVibes and Viddler. Again, you can find more of these sites using Google.
